Memento (2000)
Memento tells the story of Leonard, a man who has no short term memory trying to solve the mystery of his wife's murder. Leonard was severely injured by a blow to the head he suffered while trying to rescue his wife.
The cleverly designed movie is told in reverse chronology, so that the audience can directly see how someone with a short term memory problem adapts to solving a mystery. The audience learns what it feels like to use an adaptive technique for short term memory loss.
Leonard wants to discover who sexually assaulted and murdered his wife. This is an especially challenging mystery for a man who has lost the ability to hold short term memories. "Memento" shows how he developes tactics and techniques to compensate for his lack of a short term memory.
Memento shows him using polaroid photographs, notes he writes on his body and even tattoos to compensate for his lack of a short term memory.
